Three Simple Margarita Recipes

Home/ Recipes & Events /Three Simple Margarita Recipes

As our regular readers will know, we’re rather partial to a margarita or (twenty) two. A classic for good reason, it’s a sure-fire way to start up a party.

Being self-declared connoisseurs of this Mexican fave, we have shared a few of our favourite recipes below.

CLASSIC MARGARITA

To make a classic margarita you’ll need tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur (also known as triple sec). While a classic margarita is quite easy on its own, you can simplify it even further with an easy to remember 2-1-1 ratio:

  • 4 tablespoons  of tequila
  • 2 tablespoons of lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons of orange liqueur

HOW TO MAKE A CLASSIC MARGARITA

  1. Salt the rim of your margarita. You can purchase a coarser salt online or at the grocery or liquor store. Generously spread the salt on a plate large enough for the rim of the glass. Run a slice of lime around the rim of your glass. Then place the rim in the plate of salt.
  2. 2. Using a shaker, shake the tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur together.
  3. 3. Pour and enjoy! Pour your classic margarita into your glass over some ice (on the rocks), and you’re all set!

Spicy Margarita

How do you make a great classic cocktail even better? Add a jalapeño pepper.

  • 3 tablespoons blanco tequila (such as Mijenta Tequila)
  • 2 tablespoons of cointreau
  • 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 jalepeno pepper, sliced into coins

HOW TO MAKE A Spicy Margarita

  1. To rim your glass, rub a lime wedge around the opening and dip into into taijin.
  2. Add two or three jalepeño coins to a cocktail shaker and muddle.
  3. Add tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and ice to shaker and shake well.
  4. Strain drink into glass and top with two jalepeño coins for garnish.

AVOCADO MARGARITA

Coconut cream is often used as a thickening agent but in this version, an avocado gives you a similar creaminess and is pretty neutral in flavor.

  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1/2 ounce elderflower liqueur
  • 1/3 ounce agave nectar
  • 2/3 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/4 small avocado
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 dash tabasco
  • 1 tsp, ground pepper (for garnish)

HOW TO MAKE An avocado Margarita

  1. Add tequila, elderflower liqueur, agave nectar, lime juice, avocado, pineapple juice, and tabasco into a blender with a few cubes of ice. Blend at medium speed until the avocado is fully blended, about 20 seconds.
  2. Double-strain the mixture into a couple glass and garnish with cracked black pepper.
